Good morning, Broadway!

Yesterday, Broadway Briefing headed to Bob’s Steak & Chop House to meet the newly announced cast of this season’s revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! The location (previously called the Barberry Room) was where Richard and Oscar met in the spring of 1942 to discuss the possibility of creating a musical out of the play Green Grow the Lilacs.

Amid food and drink, the show’s cast, including Rebecca Naomi Jones, Damon Daunno, Ali Stroker, Mary Testa, and Patrick Vaill, mingled with press. The event was capped off with a surprise performance of “Oh What a Beautiful Mornin'” sung by Daunno, who eventually had the entire crowd singing with him.

WHAT THEY'RE READING IN CHEEKTOWAGA: "Broadway actor shares inspiring story, advice to students before their spring musical" by WIVB's Kelsey Anderson - "Students at a local school got some major help preparing for their spring musical. A Broadway actor visited Cleveland Hill School, in Cheektowaga, to get ready for their rendition of Newsies. Actor Clay Thomson has insight on the musical because he was in Newsies on Broadway. He also did the national tour of West Side Story, Wicked and others. Right now, he's on Broadway, in King Kong. ... "I think it's really cool, because I do want to be on Broadway when I grow up," Newsies cast member, Kyra Vest said. "And I think it's really nice to have tips from someone who is on Broadway, to push it to the next level, and help make the show even better." Newsies opens next Friday, March 1 at Cleveland Hill. Tickets are $10 at the door, and $8 in advance." http://bway.ly/nqzsti

REVIEW: "‘Merrily We Roll Along,’ the Way It Never, Ever Was" by The New York Times' Jesse Green - "On the evidence of its umpteenth unsatisfactory revisal, which opened on Tuesday at the Laura Pels Theater, I’m sorry to say that it’s still not “Merrily”’s time. Maybe it never will be — and I speak as someone who’d gladly patronize a dedicated “Merrily” repertory theater, perhaps on that rooftop, running nothing but reworked versions in perpetuity." http://bway.ly/svhahu
